Julia Donaldson Week

This is week as part of the whole school Julia Donaldson author week we have been using the book, 'Monkey Puzzle' to inspire our writing. We have been learning all about conjunctions, sequencing a story and writing in the past tense. We created some amazing recounts of Little Monkey's journey to find his mum.

In Maths we have started our learning about Place Value and looking at the tens and ones values of numbers. We have been using Numicon and Dienes to help us with this.

In our theme learning we have had lots of fun. We completed the Skittles experiment in Science and found out what would happen when we added warm water to them. We made predictions about what would happen and then wrote up our conclusions. We all got really excited when we saw the colours coming out to make a rainbow.

We looked at colour mixing and what happens to colours when we add white. We chose a colour and then adding white a bit at a time and created a background for our Little Monkey pictures.

We also held our parent workshop where we made some puppets from our story. We really enjoyed recreating the story characters from Monkey Puzzle and using them to retell the story.

This week's Learning champion is Riley for trying really hard in his writing and writing sentences with finger spaces, full stops, capital letters and using conjunctions.

This weeks Jigsaw champion is Chanelle for always trying her hardest and showing persistence in her learning.

Well done fantastic work.

Farmer Pete song with animation by Sunshine Class (pupils aged 5 years)

This song is really good to help with practicing number bonds to ten.
