Please can children bring their PE kits in a bag and we will change at school.

Week 5

 

We have had a busy week in Y2 this week!

 

In English we have been learning about expanded anoun phrases and similes.

 

In Maths we have been looking and money and time. We have been learning to tell the time to quarter past and quarter to.

 

In Science we have begun our two page spreads to show what we have learnt this half term.

 

In Art we have been completing our portraits of Queen Elizabeth II.

Week 4

 

It has been a busy week in Y2 this week!

 

In English we have begun to look at poetry and lokoing at the features of poems such as rhyme.

 

In Maths we have continued our learning about measures length and height. 

 

In Science we have been finding our the results of our investigation into whether plants can survive without certain things such as water, correct temperature and soil.

 

In Art, we have been beginning to create our portraits of Queen Elizabeth II.

 

In PE, we went on bikes to develop our bike riding skills and developed our skills in tennis.

Week 3

 

We have had a lovely week in Y2 working really hard.

 

In English we have been drafting and best copying our non-chronological reports about plants.

 

In Maths we have been learning about length and measure looking at centimetres and metres.

 

In Science we have been carrying out an investigation in to hydroponics and how to grow plants from water.

 

In Reading we have been making inferences from the text.

Week 3 Science

Week 2

 

It has been another busy week in Y2.

 

In English we have been learning planning and working towards our non-chronological report about plants.

 

In Maths we have been learning about fractions and concentrating on 3/4 and the equivalent fractions 1/2 and 2/4.

 

 In Science we have been planning our investigation into what plants needs and have been making predictions which plants will survive and grow.

 

In PE we have been developing our tennis skills and concentrating on the skill of hitting a ball into a space and to our partners.

 

In reading we have been using our Spotter character to help us to sequence events in a story.

Week 1

 

It has been another busy week back at school!

 

In Maths we have been learning about fractions and looking at 1/3 and at unit fractions.

 

In English we have been looking at conjunctions and learning about the present verb tense.

 

In Art we have been learning about potraits and looking at artitst work to appraise it.

 

In PE we have begun looking at ball and net sports.

Week 6

 

This week in English we have been writing up our stories about rabbit from our class text.

 

In maths we have been learning about fractions with a focus on 1/4 and 1/2.

 

In Science we have been creating our two page spreads about the learning we have completed this half term.

 

In PE we created sequences in gymnastics.

 

Its been a super half term and all the children have worked amazingly hard. We are very proud of them! Have a lovely holiday!

Week 5

We have been working super hard this week in Y2!

 

In maths we have began our learning of fractions concentrating on recognising equal groups and a half.

 

In English we have been learning about contractions, past tense verbs and adverbs.

 

In outdoor learning we went foraging for materials and used them to make games.

 

In RE we have been sequencing the Easter story.

 

In Jigsaw we have been learning about how to create a healthy meal and how food gives us energy.

Week 4

 

We have had another busy week this week and ahve really enjoyed doing science week!

 

We carried our two experiments a day which we have been really interesting and the children liked doing! Especially the static electricity one which made our hair stick up!

 

In Maths we have been learning about 3d shapes and looking at how many faces, vertices and edges they have.

 

In English we have been using our Wagoll to identify different grammatical features, using expanded noun phrases in our writing and learning about conjunctions.

 

In Science we did an investigation into how materials can be changed and made comparisons.

 

In Forest school we enjoyed some more learning in our secret garden.

 

It has been an amazing week! Well done everyone!

Week 3

 

It has been another busy week in Y2 this week!

 

In English we have been drafting, editing and writing a best copy of an explanation text about recycling and plastic pollution. 

 

In Maths we have been learning about 3d shapes and counting faces, edges and vertices. We have also been learning about lines of symmetry both vertical and horizontal. 

 

In Science we have been looking at the process of recycling and how plastic is recycled. 

 

In Forest school we enjoyed some time in the secret garden.

 

In PE we developed our balancing skills using apparatus.

Week 2

 

This week we have had another busy week in Y2!

 

In English, we have been learning about using our Y2 words and spelling them correctly and we have been planning our explanation text about helping the environment.

 

In Maths we have been learning about geometry concentrating on counting the sides and vertices on 2d shapes and learning to draw them.

 

In Reading we have been making inferences from the text. 

 

In Science we were looking at the properties of materials and their suitability for being used for different purposes.

 

In DT we have been looking at pivot joints and using these to create a split pin musician.

In PE we have started to learn about different movements in gymnastics.

Week 6 learning

This week has been another busy week.

 

We have completed our non-chronological reports about the Emperor penguin in English.

 

In Maths we have been learnign about statistics with a focus on tally charts and pictograms.

 

In Science we have completing our two page spreads about what we have learnt this half term!

 

In Art we have use crepe paper to make collages of elephants.

 

In PE we have been developing our invasion games skills.

It has been a fantastic half term! Have a lovely break! 

Week 5

 

It has been a busy busy week in year 2 this week!

 

In Maths we have continued our learning about multiplication and division focussing on odd and even numbers and division into 2,5 and 10.

 

In English we have been learning about using apostrophes for possession, coordinating conjunctions and have been completing our plans for our reports we will be writing next week.

 

In Science we have continued to develop our knowledge of food chains and began our two page spread to conslidate our learning of our topic.

 

In Art we have completed piece of work using collage techniques and newspaper.

 

In PE we learnt about passing skills in Basketball.

Week 4

 

We have had another fab busy week in Y2!

In English we have been looking at grammatical features that are used in a non-chronological report.

In Maths we have been continuing our learning of multiplication and division.

In Science we have been learning about food chains and learning about the vocabulary associated with them such as producers, consumers, prey and predators.

In PE we have been learning skills in invasion games.

In Spelling we have applying the spelling rule adding ies to a word ending in y.

This week we have been continuing our learning in maths around multiplication and division and looking at partitioning numbers.

 

In our English we have been drafting, editing and doing best copies of our diary entries. 

 

In Art we have been practising collage techniques.

 

In spelling we have been learning the rule of add es to words ending in y.

 

In outdoor learning we were making bird's nests.

 

In science we looked at how animals are suited to their habitats.

Week 2

 

It's been another busy week in Y2. In English we have looking at coordinating conjuctions and different types of sentences. We have also began to write our diary entries as Sunny the meerkat from our class text.

 

In Maths we have been continuing our learning about multiplication and division and have been grouping objects, learning about repeated addition and using pictures to help us to multiplu and divide.

 

In Science we have been learning about habitats. We compared some habitats and learnt how animals need certain things in habitats to survive.

 

In Art we have been practing collage techniques.

 

In Spelling we have been practing some common exception words and spelling words ending in an I sound spelt with a y.

This week in our Maths we have been learning about multiplication and division and looking at making equal groups and our two times tables.

 

In English we have been learning about the past tense, subordinating conjunctions and clauses.

 

In PE we have started to learn different football skills.

 

In Art we have been learning about our artist for the half term.

 

In Science we have been learning about life processes and thinking about things that are live, things that used to be alive and things that have never been alive.

Autumn 2

Week 7 

This week is our last week before the Christmas holiday and the final week with Mrs Taylor. We have completed writing our instructions for how to steal something just like Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len. In maths, we have been pretending to buy different items and using the coins to pay for them just like we would do in a shop. 

In PE we performed the dance we have been learning to year 1 and we also watched theirs. 

We have also completed fun things like making cards, calendars and we even had a Christmas party. 

 

A message from Mrs Taylor:

I have loved being a teacher to this class and I'm sad to be saying goodbye to you all. Thank you to all the parents/carers and children of year 2 Chestnut for being so supportive.

Week 6

This week we have learnt about instructions; what they are and their main features. We are using the text, 'What the ladybird heard on holiday' to write our own set of instructions.

In maths we are learning about money and making different amounts using money. We have sometimes used this free game online to help us and you can access it at home too:

Week 5

This week started with a few snowy days! We got to build snowmen and have fun in the snow. 

It has been assessment in school this week which means some of our usual lessons have been swapped with other tasks. The children have concentrated well and worked hard on these. 

In forest school we talked about changes over the last few months and we shared a drink of chocolate to warm us up. 

Week 4

This week we have heard a new class text, 'What the ladybird heard next'. 

We have spent the week completed activities to help us get to know the characters. 

In maths we started the week learning about addition and subtraction then moved onto number bonds to 20. 

This week we were lucky enough to go on a visit to the cinema and watch the film, two by two.    

Week 3

In English this week we used the class text, 'What the ladybird heard' to write newspaper articles about what happened. The children tried hard to remember their punctuation, adjectives and conjunctions. 

In maths, we have been adding and subtracting. We used the diennes to help us add when we need to exchanged ones for a ten. 

In forest school we made hedgehogs out of clay. We found sticks outside and used them as the hedgehog's spikes. 

On Friday it was Children in Need so we all got to come to school in our pyjamas! 

Week 2

We started this week with an exciting science lesson in which we watched how pepper moves away from soap in water. The children then completed an experiment when glitter acted as germs and they had to predict how many times washing their hands it would take to remover the glitter then wash their hands and record the actual time. 

In English we had a special visit from the main character the ladybird. The children wrote questions to ask the ladybird so they could find out more about the incident before planning their own newspaper articles. 

In maths we have been learning how to use column addition. We use the squares in our books to write help make sure the digits are in the correct column (either tens or ones).   

Autumn 2 Week 1

 

We have had a great first week back after the holiday. In English we have been looking at newspaper articles and their features. We have also been starting to use conjunctions (and, but, so) in our writing to join sentences together. In maths, we have been adding and subtracting ten. To begin with we used a hundred square to help us then we started using column method. For arithmetic Friday we used number lines to find different amounts. In science we discussed different food groups and created our very own healthy plates.
